Optimized compute—35% faster than D-Series, latest generation of CPU
Dv2-series instances are the next generation of D-series instances. They can be used as Virtual Machines or Cloud Services. Dv2-series instances will carry more powerful CPUs and the same memory and disk configurations as the D-series. Dv2-series instances are based on the latest generation 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon® E5-2673 v3 (Haswell) processor, and can go to 3.2 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. The Dv2-series and D-series are ideal for applications that demand faster CPUs, better local disk performance, or higher memories, and offer a powerful combination for many enterprise-grade applications.

Compute optimized
Fv2 Series
The Fv2-series virtual machines support 2-GiB RAM and 8 GB of local temporary storage (SSD) per vCPU, and are optimized for compute intensive workloads. The F-series is hyper-threaded and based on the 2.7 GHz Intel Xeon® Platinum 8168 (SkyLake) processor, which can achieve clock speeds as high as 3.7 GHz with the Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. These virtual machines are suitable for scenarios like batch processing, web servers, analytics, and gaming.

If my deployed instance is in the “stopped” state, am I still billed?
Yes. A stopped instance still occupies the computing resources that provide support for the instance, so you will still be charged. In order to stop billing, you need to delete your deployment.

If my web or worker role was deployed for less than an hour, how much will I be charged?
Cloud Services are billed based on the length of time your service was deployed for. If your instance was deployed for less than 1 hour, or several hours plus some minutes that do not add up to 1 hour, you will be charged only for that duration. Azure does not round up partial hours to full hours for billing – you only need to pay for the actual time that your Cloud Services instance was in a “running” state.

How are different instance sizes billed?
As described in the table below, all standard Cloud Services hours are converted to small (A1) instance hours on the bills shown to you. For example, a one-hour medium (A2) Cloud Services instance will appear as a two-hour small (A1) Cloud Services instance on the bill that is shown to you.
